Capio S:t Göran Hospital’s Policy for Quality and Patient Safety

At Capio S:t Göran Hospital the patient is in focus and is offered medical care of the highest quality. We have high accessibility for all patients and the medical care is conducted so that the patient’s passing through the system is facilitated and that proper legislation is followed. Medical care at Capio S:t Göran Hospital is built on knowledge, safety, integrity, caring where the patient’s participation is a matter of course. 

Concerned employees with high competence work together in teams where quality, safety, development and efficiency are naturally intergraded in everyday activities.

Every clinic has a Quality Group with people of different professional categories. The Quality Group is in charge of quality improving projects and assessment. Representatives from all Quality Groups, the Head Doctors, Quality coordinator and health care developers make up the Quality Counsel. The purpose of the Quality Counsel is to propose areas for further development, planning activities and assessing the work for improved quality. 

The Quality Counsel collaborates with several specialist groups working with specific areas such as nutrition, medicinal and environmental questions. The Counsel also works with the hospital’s other counsels: IT Counsel and the Research and Development Counsel. 

Our Quality Policy is presented in three parts: from the point of view of the patient and the remittent and the general quality structure at Capio S:t Göran Hospital. 

The foundation of our work at Capio S:t Göran Hospital is

  • that the quality and safety of the patient’s medical care and treatment is satisfactory
  • that the patient and their relations are treated with respect and consideration
  • that the dignity and integrity of the patient is respected
  • that the patient and their relations are kept informed and be able participate
  • that suggestions and complaints from patients and their relations are considered.

 The above is in accordance with the statute-book of the National Board of Health and Welfare SOSFS 1996:24.

  • should be based on scientific results and tested experience and secure the patient’s safety
  • should be a dynamical process with continual quality evaluation based on continuous knowledge update and creativity.

 To achieve economy efficiency Capio S:t Göran Hospital aims

  • to offer an efficient referral procedure with fast feed back to the remittent
  • to adjust the medical care we offer after the present demand
  • to offer examinations and treatments in due time
  • to incorporate new methods and to constantly retry methods already in use

  • each unit having procedures in print concerning case-books, records and check lists

Self control

  • that the clinics of the hospital be connected to national and regional quality directory for the proper field
  • that yearly quality assessments are presented from the whole hospital
  • that yearly control of technical machinery be performed and that all staff undergo organized training on said machinery.
  • that regular polls be collected from patients

Divergences and risk analysis

  • that all parts of the hospital have a common form for reporting divergences
  • that each clinic have a system for handling divergence reports and that these are analysed by the local Quality Groups
  • that events that may lead to judicial complications, be reported to head doctor for examination and if necessary forwarding to the National Board of Health and Welfare
